(AllHipHop News) Xabi Alonso has had a long journey from his childhood days at Alicante College in Spain, to his current club, Real Madrid.
In order to reach his dreams of being a professional footballer, Alonso had to overcome a lot of obstacles growing up in Spain.
Now he is trying to help others overcome the obstacles of their own lives.
Alonso is using his fame and success to bring young people out of poverty in his native Spain.
“I don’t do it because of who I am. I do it because I know there are some children in Spain who can be a little bit inspired by what I did, if I encourage them and tell them ‘if I do it it means something’,” Alonso told La Plaza Madrid.
The retired player even held an outreach with a number of young kids in Villa del Molingor. He wanted to expose the kids to the power and benefits of following their dreams.
The most encouraging part of his trip was he said he found an amazing group of kids. “You cannot make mistakes, because with mistakes you will lose.”
“The kids’ respect toward people who are different from them is impressive. They have built up such a respect for others, I want that respect for me. I don’t want this respect because of my fame or my money. But because I respect them.”
